Martin saw his first woodturning demonstration in June, 2007 and rushed home to set up a workshop in his basement. Starting with a Jet Mini, he later added a Nova DVR XP, the biggest lathe he could get down the stairs!
The basement measures 14' x 11" x 6'2" and provides a nice all-year temperature of 65-72oF. This space is shared with the water heater, central-air system, and a large number of boxes of "things" that my daughter cannot fit into her 600 sq. ft. Manhattan apartment. |

Of course, there isn't enough room in the basement, so the garage became the shop annex. Here you will find a bandsaw, tablesaw, chainsaw, and drum sander. The wood piles contain persimmon, podocarpus, and sycamore harvested in 2007; cherry and camphor of unknown vintage; black walnut cut in 2007; peach, black walnut, and carob cut in July 2009. |
